What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?
One luxury that I cannot live without is the peace that comes from God. More times than I would like to admit, I’ve chosen my own way while simultaneously forfeiting the supernatural peace that is a direct result of living by His Word and standard. Some may ask, “Doesn’t God also grant His Children free will?” The short answer is, yes. However, free will in Christ does not mean we are to live free of God’s word being applied to our decisions and how we carry ourselves on a daily basis. This freedom that we have is not to be abused but gratefully accepted and displayed as a tool to evangelize to those who have yet to know or hear about the greatness that is our God!
No matter how many books I read or words I learn, it is foolish to think that I will ever “mature” my way out of needing to rely on God’s Word. When God called me a new creation, He granted me access to a peace that truly surpasses human understanding. This peace defies the deceiving limited peace the world tries to offer through its tainted lens of exercising my free will. What they don’t tell you is that there are consequences that comes with such careless freedom when God’s wisdom is not included. Listening to the world will have me thinking that it is solely on me to protect my peace. When the Bible instructs me to guard my heart. If I adhere to the Word of God and guard my heart (carefully considering what enters into it) then I inadvertently stay connected to the Peace of God. So that it’s not so much of me abruptly cutting people off at every disagreement or inconvenience but me knowing that living at peace with all men will look different depending on the circumstances and who I will encounter. God is not raising up children who only exemplify peace when people are agreeable but also when offense occurs.
Peace from God is the luxury of living in chaos outwardly yet being in complete solace in your mind and heart. The only way to achieve such great serenity is through a relationship with Jesus. This is indeed the true luxury. Jesus gives a peace that covers our sin when shame wants to bury us in the depths of our guilt. In Christ, you’re able to experience a peace that fills your heart when your pockets our running low. It teaches us the true measure of riches is not what we store in earthly possessions but in Heaven alone. I am learning to not allow the cares of this world to dictate the measure of peace that I get abide in every day. This world will have my emotions up one day and down the next and as a child of God, I cannot allow this faulty system to be my continual source of happiness. I have an anchor of peace through my faith in Christ. An anchor that helps me weather every storm and come out victorious!
This is the lifestyle of the luxurious and lavish because diamonds can’t equate to this level of wealth! Because I not only come out of the storm victorious but am already victorious while in the thick of it. So, I offer this peace to you today! The Bible says to oh taste and see that the Lord IS good. I encourage you to taste of His peace for those living in troubled waters. Now that there are no amount of resources available that can replace the luxury of God’s peace. None of us can live without it which is why so many find themselves trying to satisfy that (God meant) hunger with things they will never last. Nothing will ever be good enough because they were never meant to in the first place. Return to your first Love (Jesus) and experience the Peace that comes from living a life sacrificed back to Him. I promise you that there is no greater luxury than to be at peace with God through your faith Christ
