One moment that truly made me feel alive was finally accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior.  The summer of 2009, was the start to the great pursuit of my heart.  Actually, I believe God was pursuing me my entire life, but it wasn’t until that summer that I started to take pause.  Music was such a huge idol in my life. When I was depressed, angry, or excited I fled to music for safety. However, that summer there was a distinct change in my addiction to music. I felt myself being drawn away from it without language to describe what was changing on the inside of me and why this was happening? Then, I went back to college to start my sophomore year and that’s when everything changed.

I remember being asked by some friends to go out with them to party at clubs.  One of my friends I met at the college I attended and I rode with her to her hometown for the weekend. Her hometown was also where my then friend attended university. She and my friend I rode with asked me to go out with them that weekend.  Although reluctant, I gave them a yes.  Needless to say, I was internally dreading every minute leading up to hanging with them both. The wild partying, loud music, and drunken antics was not something I was interested in being around anymore. Well, I went on my way with my childhood friend to the club.  As the music was playing, it started to grow faint. I hear my name being called and it wasn’t coming from my childhood friend – it was God! He asked, “Marissa what are you doing here?” I immediately responded with, “I don’t know Lord.”

The rest was history. I gave my life to Christ from that day and haven’t looked back since. Jesus rescued me from a life of sin and worthlessness that music could never deliver me from no matter how soothing the beat.  Music definitely serves its purpose but it’s not God.  People can be a great support but they are not God. Money obviously is a necessary tool but having it does not make us a god.  Only Jesus can give us a satisfying life here on earth and an everlasting life after we leave this earth, I pray you answer His call today. Be blessed!
