Falling in Line

Isaiah 55:6: Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.

One of the most coveted seasons is slowly falling upon us. The aroma of pumpkin spice and apple cider has already filled the air and homes of many who have anticipated this day since the first of August. While we are preparing our Pinterest boards for autumn outfits and decor, I pray we are preparing our hearts to be more aligned with God and obey His Word. We aren’t just entering into the fall season but falling in line where God has instructed our feet to be firmly planted which is in His Word.

There are so many things grabbing at our attention that we tend to put the word of God on the back burner. Most will say that it’s the internet keeping us away from God. Others will say it’s social media. My honest observation is both. However, those components combined with the main culprit which is these tiny computers we carry everywhere that we go called smartphones. Whether it’s an email notification that we hasten to read as soon as we open our eyes or those never ending text messages that keeps our fingers busy and hearts empty. Meanwhile, the Word of God has become a thing we pencil in to check off a list instead of the bread we need to live and thrive from day to day.

This is my challenge for you this season and beyond: to seek God first every morning. What better way to say thank You, Lord for waking me up than putting Him before anyone and anything else as we begin our day? This may require you to set an earlier alarm. Or maybe waking up early isn’t the problem but you can’t seem to stay up and the snooze button is your best friend. I challenge you to fight that urge to snooze for those extra twenty mins and really give the first fruit of your morning back to God. If He is truly the center then He can’t always be last place in our busy schedules. Take ten minutes out of your morning to spend with Him. Then, add another ten minutes the next week until you are at thirty minutes of solitude with the Lord before you start your day. If you can allot for more, then go for it. The point is to make God our center again, lay down our idols, and actively choose to feed our soul over our flesh. Don’t just do this by yourself. Share this with someone who can hold you accountable. It’s time to make God great again and it first begins within us, then the world. Be blessed!
