Expose The Light!

John 1:5 And the Light shines in darkness, darkness has not overcome it

Greetings Rose Buddy!

Have you ever driven on a dark road? Perhaps you were not in the driver’s seat, but can remember how difficult it is to drive in an unlit area. Recently, I found myself driving in pitch black darkness. The further I drove, the darker it became. Totally caught me off guard and was not prepared for the road to fade to black. It reminded me of some back roads in my hometown. First, I complained at how there were no lights for drivers to adequately see. Then, I remembered that I can turn on my vehicle’s high beams for a safer drive to my destination. The high beams served as a much needed aid for me. What was once a darkened path of obscurity turned into an illuminated ride in surety. Yes! My moment of mental malfunction had ceased and all is right in Marissa’s world of driving at night. Now, enough about my short DMV lesson. Let’s get into the real reason I decided to include that in this post.

Immediately after I remember to turn the proper lights on, I get a revelation from God. When darkness comes, I can either complain about there being a shortage of light or remember I have been given the tools to activate it! This same theory applies to my life as a Christian. Just like there is a manufactured feature for high beams in times of darkness while driving there is a faith-filled feature promised to the believer as well. We have built in Light from Jesus to activate when we go through our valleys of darkness in life. This is one of the many divine privileges we have in Christ – to let His Light shine. It is fairly easy to engross ourselves with life’s troubles. Things can happen so abruptly and repeatedly that we forget to simply turn on The Light! Darkness acts as a gloomy covering to keep our focus off of Christ. When we don’t focus on Jesus we are less likely to shine His Light! This is not to act as if we aren’t hurting or ignore whatever problems we face but to remember God is continuously Sovereign. Our trials doesn’t take away from His Supreme Dominancy.

Jesus never promised us a pocket full of sunshine. What He did say was that He will be with us always. Even when we don’t necessarily feel Him with us, it doesn’t change His promise towards us. Given the times we are in, I understand those who are afraid, frustrated, and ridiculously tired. We can feel all of those things because it’s honestly quite normal. What I don’t want us to do as believers, is forget we have what we need to powerfully navigate through those dark days. God’s Light helps us see clearer when darkness tries to surround us. Darkness can be disease, loss of any sort, persecution, disorders and just any force of evil that tries to wreak havoc in our lives. It is imperative that we remember to “turn our light on.” Again, this is not for us to selfishly use but to also point others to Christ. When we see a coworker, stranger, or loved one going through some dark days we should turn The Light on. We can’t sing about God’s Light being so marvelous when we barely expose it. Even when we go through, we should be displaying The Light of Jesus. Now, this has has nothing to do with proving how perfect our lives are but displaying that no matter what we face, there is a Perfect God to lean on and trust for protection and power. This is apart of our witness. What good is a faith that can only be proclaimed when things go our way? Anyone can exclaim or exalt someone for that. It is when our backs are against the wall where others can truly see the Power and Glory of God in our lives.

Alright! I pray this helps and encourages you to turn His Light on in every form of darkness you may encounter. God is with you and He will not fail! See ya in the next post. PEACE!
