Not Abandoned.

Jeremiah 18:1-4 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.

Broken but not abandoned.

Greetings Rose Buddy!

It’s just two days before Christmas and my has the time flown. Some of you may still have gifts to wrap. Others are heading to the grocery store for egg nog and last minute seasonings. If you’re like me, you may be joy riding through the neighborhoods to gaze at the festive Christmas lights. Wherever you fall in this reindeer dance, I thank you for taking the time to read this post. I write this to serve as a reminder and to encourage you this holiday season. With all that you may have experienced or faced this year, God has not abandoned you!

In the reference scripture, Jeremiah is instructed by God to go to the local potter house. He does as he was told and observes the potter working at the wheel. As the potter tends to the clay, he noticed that there were imperfections. Nevertheless, he devotedly resumed his work. After diligently shaping, forming and constructing the clay he was then able to create something to his liking. What was first seen as inadequate had been designed into something satisfactory. In those few verses, we see God as The Potter and His children as the clay. If nothing else we should find comfort in knowing that God is dedicated to finishing His Work in us. Those verses express God’s commitment in perfecting His children into what He desires. The perfecting rests in His ability and not in our own. It is in His nature to not only form but complete the work He starts in us. Rest in knowing it is in God’s Divine Ability to shape us into who He would have us to be in this life. We don’t have to keep depending on our own strength to complete ourselves. We don’t have to depend on others to complete us. We rely on the the strong permanence of God to finish what He starts! Trust that He isn’t worried about our shortcomings. The things we are embarrassed about does not embarrass God.

Free to be perfectly formed by the Master Potter.

No matter how flawed you may think you are, God has grace for that! Keep in mind that the potter in those verses was not discouraged when he noticed the clay was marred. Just as well, God is not intimidated by our imperfections either. He knows us better than we know ourselves and still chooses to form us into something beautiful. He takes the ugliest parts of our stories and allows it to be an extraordinary testimony for others. Given this unpredictable year we’ve faced, God can still form something beautiful! I know your story may seem bleak and that hope is seemingly lost but rest assured He is not done with you yet! If you’re reading this post, then He is still molding you into a work of Heavenly art. His Hand has never left your side and His faithfulness is proven in your breath. Be encouraged that your life is valuable to God. So valuable that He sacrificed His Only Son for you in hopes to be reconciled with you in eternal glory. So, don’t give up! Don’t believe the lies that God doesn’t care about what you’re going through because He does. His Ways are beyond our ways and thoughts are above our thoughts. Continue to trust in Him and just as He brought you out of your last circumstance He is faithful to do it again.

Heavenly Father, thank You for graciously molding me into a beautiful masterpiece. Even though it doesn’t feel so beautiful right now, I trust that in Your hands I am safe and that Your plan for me is for my good. Help my mind to recall scripture when the lie is heightened in my ear. Continue to guide me, shape me, and mold me into who You would have me to be so that Your Light can shine through me. In Jesus Name I ask these things, Amen.
