The month of May came in like an edge snatching bandit that forced me to surrender to God all over again. At the top of May, I spoke about the Courage to Conquer not knowing the battle of self I would be up against. There has been countless things I’ve been disobedient about for years that God has instructed me to do. As the weeks flew by, so did my rebellion. Making excuses to give my mind a mental break by watching new series on streaming apps or Christian ASMR videos on YouTube. Completely omitting the fact that as a believer, my unwind looks different.
Unwinding with God is the only way to recharge and release the mental angst we may feel from day to day. As God led me to the first chapter of Galatians, it challenged my view of living. Living for Christ is not only death to self, but a crucified self. This is a deliberate death – pinning every carnal desire and old pattern to the cross of Calvary. We don’t have to mindlessly find ways to recharge when we now have Jesus and Holy Spirit to fill us again. If you’re like me, after while those things start to not do the job we once trusted that it would. Our soul starts to ache for more and our spirit man becomes thirsty for what a new series can no longer quench. So, we live dead to our natural selves and awaken to who we are in the Spirit of God – a new creation.
With this engraved in our hearts, we take on a new approach to life. A life dead to the world and alive to God which is why we have to renew our minds in His Word daily. Because our flesh is dead and corruptible, we must retrieve life through the things that stem from life which is God and everything connected to Him. As new creations, we can’t keep expecting to fulfill our purpose with dead habits that are attached to a decaying flesh. I know it may be hard to choose God when needing a mental break but He’s the only One Who can keep us from breaking down.

So, I pray this month you had the courage to conquer whatever tried to keep you away from God and distracted from doing His Work in the earth. If this month wasn’t so fearless for you, I pray that you remember there are new mercies given to you to try again today. That even as you read, you will allow God to deal with your heart and mind. Let Him guide you not only by reading this post but carving out time to spend in His Word. His Word is our guide and what is the purpose of a guide? Its purpose is to direct into the right direction – the best path to trail. I pray you trail courageously and instep with God from this day forward. Of course, not every day will be perfect, but you will still be victorious! Since we are in Christ, we are graced for victory. Happy Journeying!
