Am I Weak for Depending on God?

We are living in a world where being self-reliant is a coveted trait. Where select people are even calling themselves a god because of whatever elite status or minute power they possess. What society is not telling us is that depending solely on ourselves will only get us but so far. In fact, it is quite stressful to put all of the pressure on ourselves to be happy, whole, and our own rescuer when needed. Honestly, who do we think we are? My fingers started to cramp in anxiety by just typing all of that. Thankfully as Christians, we do not have to lug around our burdens like a pack of hormonal infused potatoes everywhere that we go. God is here, near, and willing to help us unload those burdens. Calvary is where He took on the heaviest burden of all – sin of man. By Jesus doing that, it shows our day to day struggles are nothing for Him to carry.

I know it is hard to let go of the worries and concerns that you may have. Especially, if you have trained yourself to think that you have always been your own helper. Funny how God allows us to think that we are running the show. Mercy is a beautiful thing. However, surrendering to God has an even sweeter taste. We are not able to truly enjoy Mercy without surrendering to God. It is in that intimate moment with our Savior, that we acknowledge how much we needed His Mercy to get as far as we did in life. It was His Mercy that kept us when we thought it was us keeping ourselves.

Even with knowing all of this, we sometimes retreat to that old way of thinking. Perhaps, God is taking longer than usual to answer a prayer. The chances of marriage is looking slimmer and slimmer the older we get. So, we start to take matters into our own hands. That job offer with compromising values starts to look more appealing when it becomes the only offer we have after being out of work for too long. These are bleak moments that we experience. Triggering us to rely on old habits of self-reliance. What we should do in those moments is remember to not make final decisions off of how we feel. As we know, feelings are fleeting, but faith in Christ never fails. Even when we fail, He will not!

This is why we depend on God. Yes, the world may not understand, but it is not our job to listen to the world. Our life should be a reflection of full submission to God. Once they can see that, they can see how powerful Jesus truly is and the wonders that He can do. They can see what it looks like to go through life’s hardships without caving into a dark pit of despair. Onlookers can witness how to disagree with someone without being disrespectful. These are just a couple of things that we overlook that are quite hard to do without Jesus.

So, let this post encourage you to not be ashamed of relying on God for everything because we need Him for literally everything! I cannot think of one thing that I do not need Jesus for because I understand my life is nothing without Him. I challenge you to view life with God differently. Depending on Him can be scary, but we are always in the heart of safety while with Him. Stephen can tell you, though stoned, he was at Peace. How? Because his strength did not spring from himself, but God. Only God can have a man face his death while loving his murders. He did not die bitter, but brave. This is what depending on God can do for our hearts and in turn bless the lives of those to come.

Lord, thank You for always being dependable and faithful towards us. I pray we always remember the great Help we have in You, in Jesus Name I pray, Amen!
