First Move

Heavy is the foot whose steps are directed to an unknown place…

The first step is stitched

With a frightful quietness

This feeling is weird

Stuck between moving forward

And staying still

Filled with desire to do God’s Will

Painfully decorated with a frightful shield

It’s funny how I don’t mind waiting

When it is on my terms

I will delay time

Not realizing the damage or harm

I wouldn’t call it waiting

But wasting

Wasting time as if I gave it…to myself

He knew I needed help

I celebrate His first move for me

A move that is etched in my deepest memories

The day that I became free

From this space is how I continue to move

Because Jesus moved first

Yet this feeling is weird

But it gets better moving forward

Than staying still

Hi Rose Buddy and MERRY CHRISTMAS! We are at the halfway mark of the December writing prompt! Today’s poem is structured around that awkwardness of moving after God has given you the unction to go. New beginnings are hard for various reasons. Fear, anxiety, and doubt will try to overwhelm us in our movements, but we must stay headstrong to what God says and not our feelings.

Christmas is a grand opportunity to remember the greatest move of them all – Salvation for mankind! The only reason why we can make any moves is because of Jesus. So, we dare not take for granted the ability and privilege we have in Him. I know that first step is not the easiest but it is easier than staying stuck. We can’t get sidetracked with the false comfort just because a new beginning is challenging. I definitely get how uneasy a first move can get.

Moving my entire life to an entire different side of the country wasn’t a move I did unafraid. But, I did it with The Lord’s Help. To be honest, He is still helping me because there are still frightening moves to make. What helps me in making the first step is trusting that God will help me make the next until He has seen me through its completion.

What are some moves God is asking you to make that you’ve been avoiding? Why have you been avoiding it? What would change if you said, yes? These are some questions to ask that I pray will help you take those next steps. We are in this together.
