Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
Hi Rose Buddies! As promised, I am back with another post. Better late than never, right? Due to me not posting on yesterday, there will be two posts today. So if you haven’t checked the first one out then feel free to click here. Alright! Now let’s dive into today’s topic!
If I can be honest, today was definitely a struggle. Giving up seemed more attractive and Hope seemed more distant than the moon. Which is why it took me so long to even write this post. Today marked one of the days I truly felt like I was going trough life alone. It was as if I had no one to call or comfort me. Everyone just wants me to keep going and be okay. What happens when I’m not able to bounce back quickly? What to do when I feel helpless? I call on The Only One Who can help, God! Jesus knows all about feeling alone at times.
There is a passage in scripture that brushed across my mind. Jesus was asking His disciples to pray with Him and you know what they did? SLEEP! He was about to face the biggest sacrifice known to mankind. Not to mention He was taking the weight of the very thing He hates, sin. So, in one of the most crucial moments of His life He asked for them to be there WITH Him and not just for Him only. There are times when we have to be present with people and not just say, “I’ll pray for you.” Some cases deserve immediate attention and can inconvenience our day to day schedules, but that’s the cost of discipleship. Before I get off topic, I’ll save that for another post. Now, back to my original point. Some may wonder how does this fit in with the above reference verse? Well, it shows there is good in affliction.
Jesus’ affliction gave us a right to establish a relationship with God. The writer, David, in the above scripture also saw a greater outcome out of his suffering. David was able to digest more of God’s Word in times of trouble. Funny how that works. The more I go through, the more I learn of God? Why? Some might argue that the less trials we face, the more naive we are about seeking God. Most times, we need trouble to remind us Who is really in charge. I wanted to plug Jesus in because it shows that there will be moments when people do fail us. It is to be expected. The beautiful thing about it is that Jesus still endured The Cross. He never gave up and we are the products of His suffering! David also never gave up although at times, he felt alone. This encouraged me because I know my feelings are in good company.
So, I want to encourage those reading that it’s okay to feel alone at times. You’re not crazy. Just know you are never fully alone and use that alone time to learn more of God, get your mind focused on His Will and don’t judge the people you think may have failed you. It may have been God’s Plan to have you all to Himself for that period of time. His desire is to mature us and sometimes growing up requires alone time. As believers, we have to keep in mind that everything is arranged to work out in our favor and for God’s glory. Don’t reject your affliction, rejoice! It shows this is ALSO in the plan of God. Remember, Jesus was in the lineage of David. It took David enduring for Jesus to get here. Think on this before you throw in the towel because your obstacles are much bigger than YOU. What miracles are attached to your endurance in the form of your future lineage?
Okay guys, be blessed and until next time, PEACE!
